This mahogany veneered table clock case stands on brass ball feet. It has a broken arch with a pad top and a brass carrying handle. Both the front and sides of the case are decorated with fish scale sound frets. The rear door has an arched glass panel.
The convex dial measures nine inches and is painted white, and is in a excellent condition. The dial has Roman numerals and is signed C. Johnson Stratford. The finely pierced “poker ” style hands are made of polished steel.The clock movement has hour striking, on a bell, with trip repeat. It has an anchor escapement with a half second pendulum. The two trains of the movement are spring driven with fusee’s that are connected with gut line. Charles Johnson worked out of Stratford, Essex between 1849 and 1858.
